Lifehack What to do with those wire shelves

What To Do With Those Wire Shelves

Do you hate wire shelves as much as I do?  I found a quick inexpensive fix for them.

FOAM BOARD
AND
CONTACT PAPER

First, I cut the foam boards to fix my shelves and then I covered the boards with my choice of contact paper.  I picked a blue color but there are some beautiful modern patterns on the market as well.

For the corners, I cut out a square and folded the edges over.

Nice, neat, and clean

The contact paper provides a nice surface that can be wiped clean. While providing a cohesive and attractive look for your shelves.

Organize your shelves and perfect!!!

There was a small learning curve:

1.) use an Exacto knife for cutting the foam boards
2.) attach a straight line of contact paper to the board,  then slowly pull the backing from it while making sure no bubbles form.

This is a quick and easy way to make your shelves better.

Off to my next project,

My Newest Find - Underwood Universal

My Newest Find

Underwood Universal Typewriter

Found this on FaceBook Marketplace for really cheap.

I mentioned it to my husband and without hesitation, he went to go get it for me.

It's a beautiful machine.
I believe this one is from 1935 and it came with the original case that is also in great condition.

I wanted this one to go with my 1918 Underwood.  I love old typewriters and I think I have the two I want now.

What a nice find.

Laundry Room Sign

Laundry Room Sign

I had a little leftover fabric from my laundry room basket and sink projects (see bottom photos).  So, I decided to make a cute sign for my laundry room.

I started by stapling the fabric onto a previously used canvas.

Front

This is a Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic fabric that I got from a queen-sized duvet that I no longer use.

I used my crown stencil and these letters.

And here it is!!!

I just used acrylic paint, nothing special.

I placed it on the top shelf in my laundry room.

It was hard to get a picture because it is up high and my light was shining on it.

I think it turned out really cute.  At first, I was just going to paint a sign but because my canvas was already used I decided to just hide the original paint.

I am tickled with it and I wanted to share.  This might give you some ideas about how you can use fabric that you love to make your own signs.

Laundry basket using the same and matching fabric.

Everything matches and looks so beautiful together.

Coffee Table Makeover

Coffee Table Makeover

Prima Transfer Design

I have one of those Target Shabby Chic coffee tables.  It was originally a sort of off white and over time it yellowed and look dingy.  So, I decided it was time for a makeover.  I decided to paint it white using chalk paint and add a pretty transfer.

Prima Design

Before painting it, I sanded it very well.

I gave it two coats of paint and sanded between each coat.

Here you can see all the detail work on the table.

I picked a Prima transfer for my table.  This one was a set of three that could be used all together or in sections.

I had to wait and let the new finish on my table dry for about 5 days to make sure that the transfer wouldn't fail. So, I waited.....

Finally, I was able to transfer the image on to my table and it turned out so pretty.

Then I gave it a nice wax coating to protect the table and the transfer and to give it a nice finish.

Our Bella kept me company while I was taking photos.

If you are considering making over a piece of furniture this is a great option.  There is a learning curve and I made a few mistakes along the way.  In the end, I managed to get it all to work out and it looks fabulous.  I am very pleased with this project.

Valentine's Day Silverware Pockets

Valentine's Day Silverware Pockets

In 2014 I made these pockets and I wanted to share them once again.  This is such an easy project and they are oh so sweet.

First, download this image and make a sheet of four in your graphics or printer program

Print them on printer fabric and cut each one out.

I gave them a decorative edge. Then I cut out larger pieces of fabric doe the backs.

Stitch them together.

Then add a trim of your choice.

I added tiny bows but you can add any embellishment that you like.

And here they are on our table.

You can make these for any Holiday or occasion.  Just find an image you love and follow these instructions.

Happy Valentine's Day,

Valentine's Day Couplets

I wrote these couplets in 2009.

In Love, our hearts compose
Music, lovely as a rose

As our love grows
So does the rose

Spring Is In The Air...

Well, at least on my mind.

Pretty Springtime finds

This past week my daughters and I had a chance to get out and stop by some of our favorite places.

I found this pretty rabbit at Marshals.  She is just so pretty with her shabby chic fabric top.

I stopped by Home Goods and found these beautiful flocked vintage style ornaments that are perfect for Easter.

All of my favorite places are stocking the shelves with beautiful Spring decor items.

Christopher Radko does a fabulous job capturing the beauty of vintage Shiny Brite ornaments. Each ornament is a little treasure in and of itself.  I can't wait to decorate my Spring tree!!!

I have found that if you do not grab them fast they will all be gone.

We had to stop by Books-a-million and we found these pretty books for $4.33!  They are fabric covered with beautiful bookplates and ribbon bookmarks.  These even have illustrations and extra information.  The soft green and soft pink make these a great decor item for Spring.

We are tickled with our new finds.

Have a  great weekend,
