Tiny Wired Fairy Lights and a Fairytale Dress

Those of you that follow my blog know that I love this dress and my dress form.  Recently on Pinterest I saw some examples of ways to use those new tiny fairy lights and one example was with a beautiful dress.  I thought hey, I have the dress and the dress form and all I need are the lights.  Today I got my hands on a set of the lights and I was so excited to get back home and put my fairytale dress together with my new fairy lights.  

These photos were taken at night so they are not as clear as I had hoped. It has been raining fro days now but I will try to get some photos when the sun is shining again. 

  

I pin the lights between the layers of fabric and I followed the scallop design on the bottom of the dress.  

I love how it turned out and I love the feeling that it gives our bedroom.  I am hypersensitive to light but I  love accent and mood lighting.  

I used a small crown, vintage pearls, and my vintage fur that I purchased while living in South Korea.

Soon I will be sharing my holiday decor including these cuties that I recently found at Target. 

These amazing little pink reindeer are porcelain and are perfectly vintage styled with glitter and tiny ribbon bows with bells on them that actually jingle.

A Tale of a Sofa Table

Please excuse my photos.  The lighting in this room makes it difficult to take photos during the day. 

I recently read something on the internet about layering in decor and I decided I that I would love to have a shelf behind my sofa.  My sofa is sitting in front of a window, so that meant I really needed a sofa table but I did not want a regular one. I wanted one that was swallow like a shelf.  

My husband's mother had given us some wood so we went into the garage and I told him what I wanted and then it made this for me.  

He made it using fence boards and he fashioned the legs from some 2X4's that we had.  The feet are made from pieces of fence boards.  It is super light and easy to move but it stands up very well due to the feet. I whitewashed it with a mixture of one parts white paint and one part water.  It was super easy to do and I love the subtle hints of white with the wood showing.  

Then we brought it in and I spent some time displaying lots of pretties on my new sofa table.

Apple Roses for Fall

Apple Roses for Fall

I have posted these before but I felt that these are so perfect for Fall, so I wanted to share them again. 

Here is what you need to make them.

Apple Roses

Makes 12

Muffin Pan

Large bowl

Knife

Cutting Board

One small bowl

One large pot

Rolling pin

Ingredients

Puff Pastry

4 or 5 Large Apples

or 

8 Small Apples

Apricot Marmalade

1 Lemon

Cinnamon Sugar

Flour

Powdered Sugar

Directions

1.) Wash your apples and fill your bowl with water and add the juice of one lemon.  Be care not to get the seeds in the water. 

2.) Then you need to cut up the apples.  To do this cut them in half.  Then cut out the core and make sure you get the tips at the top and bottom of each apple. 

3.) Slice them very thin and place them in the bowl of water with lemon juice. 

4.) Now you cook the apples to make them flexible.  There are two options here, you can microwave them for approximately 4 minutes or you can cook them on the stovetop in boiling water until they are nice and soft. 

We put them in a pot on the stove and we were very pleased with the results.  If you have a low power microwave the stove top is the best way to cook them. 

While you are waiting for the apples to cook you can get the marmalade and the puff pastry ready. Also, now is a good time to preheat the oven to 375.

5.)  In a small bowl mix, 3 parts marmalade with  2 parts water.  I used 3 tablespoons of marmalade and 2 tablespoon water.  

6.) Microwave the marmalade for 30 seconds and mix well. 

Now for the pastry...

6.) Open pastries and lay a sheet out on a surface with flour on it.  Flour the top and use a rolling pin to roll it out thin.  then cut it into 6 strips measuring about 3 inches wide each. 

Make sure your apples are cooked and pull them off the stove.  Let them cool for a few minutes and get them out and place them back into your big bowl. 

7.)  Take one strip of pastry and cover the top with a thin layer of the marmalade.   Lay the apple pieces in a line across the pastry with the red skin above the pastry line (see photos).  Then fold the bottom edge up and over the apples about half the way up, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and  roll it up.  Then place in your muffin pan. 

Note: I have nonstick muffin pans and I did not need to use cooking spray but if you think you need use just a little. 

8.)  Place your pastries in the oven at 375  for approx. 45 minutes.  Check on the periodically. 

Optional

When they are cooled you can sprinkle them with powder sugar if you desire.

From a Screen Door to...

to a Desk

This is a project that I have had in my head for many years.  Recently my hubby started doing a little woodworking so I ask if he could make something for me.  We went and purchased the things I needed and then I showed him my plan.  He did a fabulous job of putting it all together for me. 

We took a regular screen door and built a table on to it 
and then we added shelves.  

Then I painted it white which brought out the details very nicely. 

He added my chalkboard for me.

Then I added chicken wire and fabric to the back. 

We added glass knobs so that I could hang pretties from them. 

Now I have a functional desk that is every so pretty. I added my vintage styled blueish metal chair and decorations!

My Tea Cart

My Tea Cart

I love all things tea and I have always wanted a pretty tea cart.  So, when I found this tea cart online at Home Depot, I knew just what to do with it.

Of course, this wasn't exactly how I envisioned it looking but it was ironwork and it had all the scrolly work that I love!  I painted it white using Rustoleum paint and once that was completed it was time to decorate it. 

I added a pretty mirror to sit my pink Sadler teapot,  tea tin, some vintage crochet items and silver spoon and fork. 

Teacups and some pretty pink napkins with hydrangea napkin rings from Pier 1 Imports. 

On the bottom, I added a beautiful antique Bavarian berry bowl set.

And now I have the tea cart I have always wanted and it is beautiful and useful. 

I even hung 2 pretty tea towels under the handle.  The wheels work very well and it is easy to push.

Painting My Christmas Tree

I have owned my pink Christmas tree for many years but I wasn't truly happy with it.  It was a very dark pink color and I really wanted it to be a softer pink.  So this year I decided that I was finally going to paint it.

I realized that the Rust-oleum paints can be used on plastic as well,  I figured since my tree is made out of plastic that this paint would work.   So I picked out a lovely soft pink and one can of white.  I had decided that I wanted white accents to simulate snow. 

It took a total of 4 cans of light pink to cover my tree.  I took my tree outside, shaped it a little and painted it.  When I finished painting it pink I took the white and hit the tips of each branch.  

I let it sit outside to dry. 

Then I moved it into my tea room. 

I had found some beautiful light pink lights at Big Lots over the summer.  Not only were the lights pink but the wires were pink as well.  So I added my lights and you can not even see the wires.  

I added my Rachel Ashwell shabby chic tree skirt and my paper churches.  I will be waiting to decorate because Christmas is a long way off but since I already had my tree out to paint it, I thought I would just leave in my tea room.  Besides a pink tree is perfect any time of the year for this girly girl.

Note:
I do not know how this would turn out on a traditional green tree.  However, I will say that painting your tree is totally doable.  You do need to make sure that your paint is for plastic if your tree is made of plastic.  It does take a lot of cans to get nice coverage. I did test a tiny piece of my tree to make sure it would work before I started painting my tree.
